The Laboratory of Environmental Science and Engineering
is part of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Technology
in the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering

at the National Technical University of Athens.

The Laboratory was established in 1992 and today has evolved into one of the leading world laboratories in the area of the study of the interactions between microorganisms and pollutants and, in particular, on the subject of biosorption with significant contribution to the state of the art.
The study of biosorption fundamentals involves the investigation of the underlying physical-chemical-biochemical mechanisms, the modelling and development of engineering processes, based on the application of biosorption for the treatment of industrial wastewaters, the recovery of valuable metals and bioremediation.
