Short Biography: Born in 1972, he received his BSc in Geology in 1993, MSc in 1996, and PhD in 2001, and is currently full-professor at Pamukkale University. His research focuses on tectonic, stratigraphic, and sedimentary evolution of post-orogenic and post-collisional basins, particularly in western Anatolia. His work integrates tectonics, sedimentation, climate change, and biostratigraphy to develop high-resolution tectonostratigraphic frameworks that enable regional correlations and improve understanding of crustal evolution.<\/p>\n

He has made significant contributions to the study of Neogene basins and the tectono-sedimentary evolution of highly extended crustal domains, including the relationship between extensional tectonics, geothermal fluid circulation, and travertine formation. Through extensive geological mapping and synthesis studies, he has contributed to refine models for the geological evolution and crustal architecture of western Anatolia.<\/p>\n

Combining sedimentological and stratigraphic analyses with mammalian fossil assemblages, he has established refined chronostratigraphic frameworks for terrestrial basin successions. His paleontological discoveries include numerous micro- and macro-mammal fossil assemblages and the first discovery of Homo erectus in Anatolia, providing key evidence for faunal migrations including early human dispersal into Europe via the Anatolian land bridge.<\/p>\n

His scientific achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Golden Hammer Research Award of the Turkish Geological Chamber (2004), the Distinguished Young Scientist Award of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (2010), and the Prince Rainier III Research Award from the Institut de Pal\u00e9ontologie Humaine (2012).<\/p>\n

He has coordinated and participated in numerous international research projects funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie, Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), Centre Europ\u00e9en de Recherche et d’Enseignement des\u00a0G\u00e9osciences) de l’Environnement (CEREGE), Institut de Pal\u00e9ontologie Humaine (IPH), Italiana del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), Mus\u00e9um National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Projet International de Cooperation Scientifique (CNRS-PICS), Naturalis Biodiversity Center (NATURALIS), Magyar Tudomonyos Akademia (MTA), Nemzeti Kutat\u00e1si \u00e9s Technol\u00f3giai Hivatal (NKTH), Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), National Science Foundation (NSF), Norsk Hydro, National Geographic and Leakey Foundation. He is also an active member of the Hierapolis archaeological excavation team working on tectonic setting of the archeological site. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals.<\/p>\n
